In 1870, Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch, established the Germ Theory Of Disease. The germ theory states a specific disease is caused by a specific organism. Before, the Germ Theory, doctors didn't really know what to believe diseases were caused by. Doctors also used to perform autopsies on patients without washing their hands. In 1879, the first vaccine for CHOLERA was made. Cholera is an infection caused by bacteria. In 1881, The First Vaccine for ANTHRAX was developed. Anthrax is caused by the spore-forming bacterium bacillus anthracis. In 1882, The first vaccine for RABIES was developed. The rabies vaccine should be considered for people whose activities bring them into frequent contact with rabies virus or with possible rabid animals. In 1890, Emil Von Behring discovered ANTITOXINS and used them to develop TETANUS and DIPHTHERIA vaccines. In 1895, German physicist, Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered X-RAYS. In 1896, The first vaccine for TYPHOID FEVER was made. Typhoid fever is a life -threatening illness caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi. In 1897, Ronald Ross, a British officer in the Indian medical service demonstrates that MALARIA parasites are transmitted via Mosquitoes. The treatment for Malaria was identified long ago, and is still used today. In 1897, the first vaccine for PLAGUE was made plague is a natural infection of rodents & their fleas. Fleas transfer the infection to various animals & humans. In 1899, Felix Hoffman developed ASPIRIN. Aspirin was used often much earlier, and is very popular today. In 1901, Austrian-American, Karl Land Steiner described blood compatibility and rejection, which developed the ABO system of BLOOD TYPING. In 1906, Sir Frederick Gowland Hopkins suggested that VITAMINS should exist and believed they are essential to health. In 1907, The first successful human BLOOD TRANSFUSION using Landsteins ABO Blood Typing technique. In 1922, Insulin was first used to treat DIABETES. In 1927, The first vaccine for TUBERCULOSIS was created. In 1945, The first vaccine for INFLUENZA aka The Flu was created. In 1955, Jonas Salk Developed the first POLIO vaccine.
